The ICA is getting ready to host the Boston premier of Gob Squad’s Kitchen (You’ve Never Had It So Good), an outstanding live video performance by a zany bunch of UK and German artists who bring Andy Warhol’s films to life. In celebration of the upcoming performances (January 13, 14, 15) we decided to put together a quick list of non-official Andy Warhol fun facts!
- Andy Warhol was born Andrew Warhola on August 6, 1928
- Between 1963 and 1985, Warhol directed or produced 108 films, including Kitchen, Eat, Sleep and Screen Test – the inspiration for Gob Squad’s performance.
- Warhol’s very first movie, Sleep, was a 6 hour long documentary of his friend sleeping.
- In 1966, the ICA/Boston organized the second museum exhibition dedicated to Andy Warhol. During this time, Warhol and the Velvet Underground staged a public performance of the landmark intermedia work Exploding Plastic Inevitable.
- Bob Dylan's song, “Like a Rolling Stone” is reputed to have been about Warhol.
